29th June 2023
Dear Parents and Carers of Years 1 and 2.
As part of our RHE provision to pupils, we deliver a comprehensive Relationships and Health Education curriculum. We ensure that all statutory objectives are adequately covered so that all children learn about different relationships, different families, physical/mental health and wellbeing and staying safe. Children will also learn about their changing bodies. At our school, this learning takes place in years 1-6
Parents and carers do not have the right to withdraw their children from lessons that cover statutory Relationships and Health Education objectives. Nor do they have the right to withdraw their child from lessons that cover national curriculum science objectives. This includes all the information on how the human body changes.
Our Relationships and Health Education is fully inclusive to meet the needs of all our pupils. We fully believe that all children should learn about these important life skills in an open, honest and safe environment. We also believe that they should be taught in an age-appropriate and engaging way.
We encourage parents and carers to view our Relationships and Health Education Policy and scheme of work. These can be found on our school website. We believe it is important to have a strong partnership with parents and carers and will always communicate what is being taught when. We will also provide any further reading or support for any parents and carers wishing to discuss the objectives taught with their children at home.
We are offering parents the opportunity to come to school to view the curriculum and resources that the children will be using in Year 1 and 2. This will be on Monday 3rd July 2023 at 3.30pm in the large hall.
Yours faithfully,
Yarnfield Primary School
